Australia's Favorite Scones
Served with whipped cream and jam, they make the perfect afternoon tea treat.
Ingredients
2 cups/250g self raising flour
1 teaspoon sugar
pinch of salt
¾ cup milk
1 tablespoon butter
Instructions
- Sift flour with the salt. Add the sugar to the flour mixture. When the dry ingredients are well mixed rub in the butter lightly.
- Make a well in the centre and pour in the milk. Work lightly into a soft dough.
- Turn the dough onto a lightly floured board and knead lightly.
- Roll out the kneaded dough to about 2cm (1 inch) thicknes and using a 5cm (2 inch) round cutter cut out scones.
- Place scones onto a cookie tray about 2cm (1 inch) apart. Glaze the top with milk. Bake in a hot (200°C/400°F/Gas mark 5) oven for 7 to 10 minutes or until light golden in colour.
